Stockholm, Sweden, 23 February 2022 – Elisa Polystar, a world-leading pioneer in network automation, service assurance and analytics solutions, announces new enhancements to its KALIX solution, delivering extended insights into IoT devices and behaviour, enabling operators to more effectively manage IoT service delivery.
IoT remains a key 5G opportunity for operators, as they seek to build on success in building propositions for 4G and other generations of mobile networks. However, with 5G, it is anticipated that there will be both massive more devices, as well as greater diversity. And, as operators seek to introduce greater service differentiation through the launch of 5G Standalone (SA) services and network slicing, a much greater variety of IoT services are expected.
KALIX, Elisa Polystar’s market-leading assurance and analytics solution has been extended with new capabilities to support operators in the transition to a broader portfolio of IoT services and to meet the challenge of connecting a greater volume and diversity of devices.
Key new enhancements include:
- Device segmentation capabilities, enabling operators to support offers for different categories of IoT device – from personal and household solutions, to complex B2N equipment
- Automatic device detection, providing operators with instant visibility when devices are activated in their networks – including those that are roaming
- Signalling activity alerts – IoT devices contribute to a growing and increasingly significant proportion of all network control plane traffic. Operators must carefully manage this, to avoid overloads and to plan capacity and routing accordingly. The ability to detect unexpected signalling behaviour is essential for protecting network services
- Connectivity management – IoT devices can connect to different generations of mobile technology. With 3G sunset on the horizon, it’s essential to target upgrade the most suitable RAT – NB-IoT, LTE-M, 5G – for key devices that are currently connected to legacy networks
“Operators seeking to monetise new 5G and other IoT services need richer insights to assure them”, commented Thomas Nilsson, CTO & EVP of Service Assurance for Elisa Polystar.
“The extensions we’re releasing for KALIX deliver enhanced agility, enabling operators to provide SLA-backed capabilities for both core IoT services and those enabled for B2B partners.”
The new features build on the existing capabilities of the dedicated IoT Portal available to KALIX users, providing complete in-service assurance for valuable services, and supporting operator monetisation efforts as they invest in their 5G service portfolio.
In addition, Elisa Polystar’s service assurance and monitoring portfolio is fully integrated with our automation solutions, bringing together assurance and automation for IoT and other services – developed by an operator, for operators.
